Now that you have read the lineup it’s pretty easy to see why this day was the epic. This was the best concert I’ve ever been to. It all happened in Mountain View California at the Shoreline Amphitheatre – actually it happened in that huge parking lot next to it where they are able to have outdoor music without that stupid seating like inside the Amphitheatre.

First band that I cared about seeing were the Vandals! They pumped out all of their amazing hit songs (well hits to me at least) and had the crowd moving and shaking. Fun fact for the day – Brooks Wackerman from Bad Religion pulled double duty as the stand in drummer for the Vandals.

“I’ve got an Ape Drape,
Yes I do
They’re givin’ them to anyone,
And that means you
You can drive to Riverside and get one too
Then you’ll have an Ape Drape like I do.”

After all of the fun that the Vandals brought to the stage it was time to rock out with some Pennywise! Jim, Fletcher and the gang hit the stage and showcased all of their amazing hits. Pennywise is like a bomb hitting you at 100 MPH. Fast songs, skate punk riffs and no let up. As always they ended their set with Bro Hymn. A Special guest filled in at Bass guitar. Can you spot him?

“Ever get the feeling you can’t go on
Just remember whose side it is that you’re on
You’ve got friends with you till the end
If you’re ever in a tough situation
We’ll be there with no hesitation
Brotherhood’s our rule we cannot bend”

If you thought that was a pretty good lineup already you would be correct. The night is only half over my friend. Next up, the almighty Bad Religion – from the San Fernando Valley! Who knew some kids from the SFV would go on to be Punk Rock royalty. Song after song meant hit after hit. These guys are pushing 50 years old and rock just as hard (probably harder) than younger bands. I can’t express how joyful of an experience seeing Bad Religion live is. I was front row for the whole set. Kicking, punching and pushing my way around the mosh pit and taking breaks when I wanted to sing along.

“So you say you gotta know why the world goes ’round
and you can’t find the truth in the things you’ve found
and you’re scared shitless ‘cuz evil abounds
come and join us”

And now….the moment you’ve all been waiting for. The headliner, THE OFFSPRING! And not just the Offspring – the fucking Offspring doing their entire SMASH album from start to finish! The album that sold 7 million copies! The album I spent the better part of 1995 listening to. One of my first Punk Rock albums. Amazing. Words can’t explain it better than that.

“Drivers are rude
Such attitudes
But when I show my piece
Complaints cease
Something’s odd
I feel like I’m god
You stupid dumbshit goddam motherfucker!

I open the glove box
Reach inside
I’m gonna wreck this fucker’s ride”

And then it was over. The best concert I ever went to.
